If you’re planning to buy a new kitchen, you’re likely to be looking for several things. First of all, you’ll want a kitchen that looks stylish and beautifully designed. Secondly, you’ll want a kitchen that will last well, so that you won’t be looking again in a few years. And thirdly, unless you’re in a very fortunate position, you’ll want a kitchen that doesn’t cost the earth.
In general, when we think of quality, we think of German kitchens, but there are many brands to choose from. And are they really that much better than the options that are closer to home? Take Beckermann Kitchens, which are one of the leading brands. How do they compare with the high street chains and with other German brands?
How do Beckermann Kitchens compare to the high street chains and trade-only suppliers?
The easiest way to buy a new kitchen is to go to one of the big high street chains. Alternatively, a more adventurous buyer might go through their local builder and use one of the trade-only suppliers. Price wise, kitchens from these places usually cost about 35% less than a Beckermann kitchen. However, the 35% difference in price is reflected in the quality difference. Put quite simply, it’s like comparing a Ford or a Vauxhall with a Mercedes or a BMW.
Beckermann Kitchens are simply a whole higher level of quality. For instance, they use very high-quality painted or lacquered doors, which will stay looking great for years. The chains & trade-only suppliers, on the other hand, tend to use low-quality foil, vinyl or PVC wrapped doors, which will soon start to de-laminate & peel.
Similarly, the carcasses in Beckermann kitchens are made from high-quality, high-density chipboard, whereas the chains & trade-only suppliers use much lower-quality materials. The result is that the chains’ & trade-only suppliers units are soon likely to start bowing under the weight of the worktops. Beckermann’s units, on the other hand, will support the heaviest granite or quartz worktops without bowing.
Overall, Beckermann kitchens are likely to last a minimum of 15-20 years. Those from the chains and trade-only suppliers, on the other hand, probably won’t last more than 5-8 years.
How do Beckermann Kitchens compare to other German kitchens?
In our opinion, Beckermann Kitchens are very similar quality to the other major German brands. They appear to have high quality across the board, using similar doors and chipboard, and all are built to last. No doubt different people will find one or another of the brands preferable to others. However, In our opinion, Beckermann Kitchens are very similar in quality to the other main German kitchen brands.
However, It’s worth noting that there are one or two German brands on the market that, in our opinion, just as good quality as Beckermann, but cost up to 35% less. To put this into context. For a good sized Beckermann kitchen comprising say 25 units, a 40% saving on the units should equate to a saving of about £4,000 – £5,000.
