The next step is to make showroom appointments with the suppliers you like the look of and obtain designs and quotes from them.
Then, all you need to do is decide which retailer/s offer the best balance of price, quality and service. However, doing that is easier said than done. There are several reasons why this is so difficult:
Difficulties in finding the best price
When comparing German kitchen retailers, you’d think that the price would be the easiest thing to work out. In fact, it’s actually more complex than it looks.
Typically, a quote will give you a breakdown of each section, followed by a total price at the end. For instance, if the total price was £25,000, the breakdown might be:
- £12,000 for the units
- £4,000 for the quartz worktops
- £6,000 for the appliances, sinks and taps
- £3,000 for a dry fit
Most retailers will not give you the cost of each individual unit. They’ll just give you the total cost of all the units. In this example, the total cost of all the units is £12,000. Most retailers also won’t give you the design. Instead, they’ll usually only give you a few pictures. Some retailers don’t even give you a few pictures. They’ll literally just give you the price.
This makes it very difficult to compare like for like unit prices between suppliers. Therefore, you may have a quote for the units that’s several thousand pounds less than other quotes. However, sometimes, the reason why a quote is several thousand pounds less than others is because it’s missing items that the others have included. This can cause serious problems down the line when you’re fitting the kitchen and realise that you haven’t got what you thought you were going to get.
Difficulties in finding the best quality
Most German kitchen retailers you visit will explain why the brand they sell is the best quality. So, if you’ve visited say three showrooms who sell 3 different German brands, how do you know which brand is the best quality?
Most German kitchens are higher-quality than the kitchens places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes sell. However, they are not all the same quality. They differ.
To make things more confusing, some of the higher-quality German brands are no more expensive than the lower-quality ones. For example, nobilia is one of the lowest-quality German brands. Therefore, you would assume that it would be one of the cheapest. However, it isn’t. There are other German brands that cost similar to nobilia, but are higher higher-quality.
Difficulties in finding the best service
You would assume that retailers that sell high-quality German kitchens all offer a high-quality service. However, this isn’t the case. The quality of the service offered by showrooms differ substantially.
The showrooms that offer a high-quality service that stands out are in the minority. Unfortunately, the majority of showrooms offer either an ok service or a poor one.
