How to get the best deal on Scandinavian design kitchens
If you’re considering a new kitchen, it’s possible you’re thinking seriously about Scandinavian design kitchens. It doesn’t get much better than the clean, bright lines of the Scandinavian look designed specially for your needs.
There are innumerable outlets for Scandinavian design kitchens, though, with a wide range of both price and quality. So how do you find the best deal — high quality at a price that doesn’t say “millionaires only”?
Scandinavian design kitchens from the high street chains or trade-only suppliers
For many people, the first stop would be either one of the the large high street chains such as Wren or Magnet or a trade-only supplier such as Howdens, Benchmarx or Magnet Trade. The benefit of using one of these suppliers is that their Scandinavian design kitchens are cheap — however, there are downsides.
For one thing, the quality of the units isn’t great, and they’re certainly not built to last. The chains and trade-only suppliers both use low-quality components for their kitchens. This means they are unlikely to last much more than five or six years.
Besides this, their design service is usually poor. This is for three reasons: Firstly, their designs don’t usually make good use of the available space. Secondly, their designs often contain design errors. An example of a design error is placing a fridge freezer or a fridge too close to a wall. Doing this means you’ll lose access to the salad drawer in the fridge. This is because when you try opening the salad drawer, it will hit into the side of the bottle shelf. Thirdly, sometimes their designs don’t actually fit the space. Unfortunately, some people don’t discover this until the kitchen is being installed, by which time it’s too late.
The other issue is that they charge a small fortune for fitting — typically around £5,000.
Scandinavian design kitchens from the well known high-end suppliers
At the other end of the scale, you might consider one of the well-known, high-end suppliers such as Roundhouse or Sola Kitchens. The Scandinavian design kitchens you’ll get from these are high-quality and will last a long time. Also, unlike the one-size-fits-all approach of the chains, they’ll usually design your kitchen according to your individual requirements.
As you might expect, this doesn’t come cheap. Places like Roundhouse and Sola kitchens all charge a small fortune. For a large 25 unit kitchen, with good-quality appliances, granite, quartz or Ceramic worktops and fitting, they’ll typically quote £70,000 – £150,000. Therefore, this option is likely to be out of most people’s price range.
Scandinavian design kitchens from smaller suppliers
Besides the well-known high-end suppliers, there are many smaller suppliers. Many of these provide Scandinavian design kitchens that are just as good-quality as the well known high-end suppliers.
The problem going this route though is that many of them charge just as much as places like Roundhouse and Sola Kitchens. However, not all of them do. Some charge less than half of what places like Roundhouse and Sola Kitchens.
So, how do you find the smaller suppliers whose kitchens are comparable in quality to places like Roundhouse and Sola Kitchens, but charge less than half the price?
