We’d all love to find top-quality kitchen design ideas when we’re having a new kitchen installed. If you’re made of money, you can find bespoke kitchens from top designers, but that’s beyond most of us. So where will you find the best kitchen design ideas at an affordable price?
Kitchen design ideas from the high street chains
The obvious starting point would be Wickes, Wren, Magnet and the other high street chains. Unfortunately, all their talk about great quality for low prices is just advertising. Their prices are fairly cheap, but they aren’t interested in kitchen design ideas to make the most of your space.
If you don’t need kitchen design ideas (if you just want one-for-one replacements of the units) the chains are adequate. Their “sales designers” aren’t really equipped to deal with tricky problems of using the space, though. They’re far better at sales than design. Their efforts go into sales tricks like “50% off sales” that are nothing of the kind, rather than designing.
Kitchen design ideas from the trade suppliers
A kitchen from the chains will be fairly cheap, but the fitting certainly won’t be. One possible way of getting round this is to go through a builder, who can use the trade suppliers. A builder will usually fit the kitchen at a far more reasonable rate than the chains.
However, trade suppliers like Howdens and Benchmarx are no better than the chains, either for quality or kitchen design ideas. They make basic kitchens that can be fitted by non-specialist builders. These kitchens won’t make the best use of the space, and the fitting will be no more than adequate.
Kitchen design ideas from an independent showroom
Independent showrooms are at the opposite pole from the chains when it comes to kitchen design ideas. They’re not interested in sales tricks like inflating the price in order to give you “50% off”. Instead, they want to get on with designing your kitchen.
At the chains, designing will be squashed into little more than twenty minutes. The designers at an independent showroom take as long as it needs to get great kitchen design ideas for you. You’ll probably be invited back for a second visit, to make sure they’ve covered all your requirements and make adjustments.
Many independent showrooms charge premium prices for high-quality kitchen design ideas. But not all. Some may offer you a luxury German kitchen for around what the chains and trade suppliers charge for low-quality kitchens. And not a sales trick in sight.
