Where are the best places to visit when designing a kitchen?
If you’re designing a kitchen, you’ll want the best design you can get. At the same time, you don’t want it breaking the bank. So, where can you go to get a well designed kitchen, that’s good quality and reasonably priced?
Designing a kitchen with the high street chains
Most people who are designing a kitchen will probably begin with the big high street chains. It seems a good start that you’ll be greeted by a “sales designer”, but that’s not all it promises. This is a salesperson, more interested in talking about fake sales & unbelievable discounts rather than your individual requirements & how best to design your new kitchen.
When you visit one of the chains, you’ll be lucky if they spend more than about 20 minutes on the actual design. A design done in 20 minutes will, at best, be ‘ok’, or at worst, wont fit. The reason they spend such little time on the design is because the chains tend to use a one-size-fits-all approach, which rarely works. So, If you’re looking for a design that suits your individual requirements & makes best use of the available space, you’ll be better off looking elsewhere.
Designing a kitchen with the trade suppliers
An alternative is to use one of the trade only suppliers. Plus, you’re guaranteed to get a much better deal from them than you will from the chains. You know this because that’s what you’re builder told you!
The problem with this is that trade only suppliers are usually no better than the chains at designing a kitchen. They also usually design kitchens using a one-size-fits-all approach, which rarely works.
Also, in reality, the prices builders quote for a trade only supplier kitchen is usually similar to the chains. In fact, often builders will quote more than the chains, especially if you live in an affluent area.
Designing a kitchen with the independent showrooms
You may have been told that independent kitchen showrooms are great at designing a kitchen, but expensive. The first part is certainly true. The design you’ll get from Independent kitchen showrooms will usually be much better than the chains and trade only suppliers. Independent kitchen showrooms usually design kitchens to clients individual requirements. This ensures the best use of the available space. So, unlike the chains, who’ll spend about 20 minutes designing your kitchen, Independents will usually spend 2 or 3 hours designing your kitchen. This is perhaps why their designs are so much better than the chains & trade only suppliers.
Independents can be expensive — but not always! – There are some that cost similar to the chains and trade only suppliers.
