Among the best kitchen finishes are lacquered, lacquered laminate and laminate. So how does a laminate kitchen measure up, and should you buy one?

Durability
Laminate kitchens are among the most durable type of kitchen you can buy. Unlike a lacquered kitchen, they’ll never chip and are highly resistant to scratching. This means they are the perfect choice for families with young children.
Will never peel
It’s important not to get mixed up between laminate kitchens and wrapped kitchens. They are two totally different materials. Wrapped kitchens are the low quality type that peel. The main types of wrapped kitchens are foil wrapped, vinyl wrapped and PVC wrapped. Wrapped kitchens are sold mainly buy the high street chains and trade only suppliers.
In contrast, a laminate door will be either an MFC (melamine faced chipboard) or high pressure laminate door. Neither of these should ever peel.
You can match the worktops to the units
If you’re buying a continental kitchen, such as a German or Italian kitchen, you can usually match the laminate worktops to the units. The advantage of matching the worktops to the units is it gives a totally seamless finish. You can’t do this with a British kitchen.
Plus, these worktops only usually cost between £700 & £1,000. In contrast, granite, quartz & Corian worktops rarely cost less than £3,000.
Below are examples of German kitchens with matching German laminate worktops.
