Revolutionary new stain resistant granite worktops launched
Up until recently, if you were looking for stone worktops, you would essentially have 2 choices: quartz worktops or granite worktops. The big advantage quartz worktops have over granite worktops is that they are non porous & therefore resistant to staining. Granite, on the other hand, is a porous material & can be stained if not regularly sealed. Unfortunately there’s no such thing as stain resistant, non porous granite. That was… until now!
Consetino, the Spanish manufacturer famous for Silestone & Dekton, have just launched Sensa. Sensa is a revolutionary new type of granite worktop that is resistant to staining.
What is Sensa?
A protective treatment is applied to each slab of Sensa during the manufacturing process. The treatment is capable of chemically incorporating itself into the material while at the same time still letting the granite breathe. The process actually alters the surface tension of the granite, causing the material itself to become resistant to staining. The picture below shows the difference between Sensa granite (left) versus standard granite (right).
In addition, thanks to their own natural characteristics, Sensa granite worktops are also able to retain their colour. They also protect themselves from alterations caused by sunlight and UV radiation.
What guarantee does the protective treatment have?
The protective treatment comes with a 15 year guarantee.
How much do Sensa Granite worktops cost?
As Sensa has only just been launched, it is too early to confirm pricing. However, the brands that Consetino offer are all firmly aimed at the mid to upper end of the market. Therefore, it is most likely that the new product will cost similar to Silestone’s more expensive price bands of quartz.
Is staining really a problem with granite?
All granite worktops can stain if they are not regularly sealed, however, the lighter the colour of granite, the more likely you are to notice the stain. So, if you choose a dark coloured granite such as black, dark brown or dark grey, you are unlikely to notice any stains. However, if you choose a light coloured granite such as white, cream or light grey, you are much more likely to notice stains.
