Interactive touchscreen induction hob that displays recipes, Facebook updates & more.
Whirlpool has just shown off it’s idea of the hob of the future at the 2014 consumer electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas. An interactive touchscreen induction hob that can display recipes, Facebook & Twitter updates, news, weather, and more.
Whirlpool wants the cooking surface to be a massive touchscreen that can display information pulled in from a smartphone or tablet. It’s best use might be to display recipes: instead of keeping a tablet nearby while cooking, the display would show instructions right next to your ingredients, pans, bowls, and chopping boards.
You’d even be able to change the music streaming on your audio system, keep tabs on your different social media accounts or even stream a movie.
The surface would use induction technology to cook, allowing you to cook directly on the worktop while keeping it cool to the touch.
Whirlpool’s idea is to produce a large thin tablet-like device/mat that can be placed on any type of worktop. The company wants to build induction elements into this thin device.
Whirlpool says the idea is in ‘active development’ & hopes to introduce this type of induction hob technology to the market in around 5 years time.
Whirlpool has a history of technological kitchen innovation. Their 6th Sense induction hobs are able to sense the exact temperature of pans when boiling water. They’re intelligent enough to adjust the power level to reach boiling point & automatically reduce the temperature just enough to maintain boiling point – significantly reducing energy consumption.
