How to find the best value kitchen companies
Buying a new kitchen is a major investment. So, unless you’ve got money to burn, you’ll probably want to get the best quality kitchen for the lowest possible price. To do that, you have find the best value kitchen companies, and that can be tricky.
Surely the best deals are at one of the well known high street chains?
It seems simple enough — just go to one of the well known high street chains. The ones always advertising on TV. You know they give the best deals because their own advertising says so. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, try one of the big trade only kitchen companies instead, as they’ll be cheaper than any retailer.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work like that. The big chains have large overheads to cover. Therefore, their kitchens are neither cheap or good quality. The same is also true for trade only suppliers. Builders may tell you that they’ll get you 80% off a trade only kitchen, but the reality is, a trade only kitchen will usually cost very similar to the high street chains. Plus, the kitchens trade only suppliers sell are just as low quality as the chains!
But don’t get to disheartened. There are some very good value kitchen companies out there. You just need to know where to look.
The real best deals
The best deal will be from an Independent kitchen showroom. The best value Independent kitchen showrooms will quote you similar to the chains & trade only supplies, but offer you a kitchen that’s much higher quality and will last longer.
So, for instance, the units you’ll get from a good value Independent kitchen showroom will be constructed from high density chipboard. High density chipboard will support the weight of the heaviest worktops & will never bow. In contrast, the chains & trade only suppliers construct their units from cheaper, low density chipboard. The problem with low density chipboard is it soon starts to bow under the weight of the worktops. The first signs of bowing is usually seen on the backs of the units. Once the backs start to bow, it isn’t usually long before they come away completely, exposing the wall & any pipework behind.
Also, most Independent kitchen showrooms will supply you with the high quality painted & lacquered type doors. In contrast, the chains & trade only suppliers mainly sell the low quality wrapped type doors. It’s the wrapped type doors that peel. Unfortunately, once a wrapped door has peeled, the only option is to replace it, which is expensive. Below are some pictures of peeling wrapped doors.
Get the best deal on fitting too
You’ll also get a much better deal on the fitting from an independent kitchen showroom. The big chains charge a fortune for fitting. Because of this, many customers will use a builder to fit their kitchen instead. The problem with this is, builders will usually do an ‘ok’ job of fitting a kitchen. However, they’ll never fit a kitchen as well as a kitchen fitter. The reason for this is because kitchen fitters specialise in fitting kitchens, builders don’t.
The best local showroom will fit the kitchen they supply for about the same price as a builder, However, they’ll usually do a much better job of fitting the kitchen than most builders will.
