Don’t be fooled by “kitchen sales” from the big chains
I am sure you have seen one of the major chains offering 50% off. How could anyone resist that? kitchen sales like this seems too good to be true.
Well, there is an old saying that, if something looks too good to be true, it probably is, and that is certainly the case with kitchen sales.
The reality is, the big chain stores are one of the worst value places to buy a kitchen from, despite all their supposed kitchen sales.
How kitchen sales work
In the kitchen industry, most retailers work on margins of about 40% on the units. Therefore, if a retailer is offering you 50% off the normal price of their units, they will be making a 10% loss. So, how can the big chains afford to make a 10% loss and not go bankrupt?
The reason they don’t go bankrupt is because their 50% off sales are fake. The reason they are fake is because before they run a 50% off sale, they double the prices of their units. They then advertise a 50% off sale. The sale is designed to mislead people into thinking they are getting a bargain. They then pressurise people into putting down a deposit by telling them the sale ends in a few days.
How to get a better deal
When you buy a kitchen from the chains in one of their kitchen sales, you might think your getting a bargain. However, nothing can be further from the truth. Instead, what you will be getting is a low-quality kitchen that will soon start to look tired & worn out within a few years.
You will also probably get a poorly designed kitchen too. You see, the chains tend to design kitchens using a one-size-fits-all approach, which rarely works. In contrast, independent kitchen showrooms usually design kitchens according to each clients individual requirements. This ensures the best use of all the available space.
So, instead of going straight to the chains, try a local kitchen showroom first instead. Unlike the chains, most local showrooms won’t try to mislead you into thinking you are getting a bargain by inflating their prices so they can then offer 50% off. Instead, they will give you their best price first.
Plus, if you know the right showrooms to visit, it is possible to get a kitchen that costs similar to the chains, but is higher quality and will last longer.
You’ll also get a kitchen that’s been designed to your individual requirements and make best use of the available space. As opposed to a poorly designed kitchen that’s been designed using a one-size-fits-all approach.
