Cost effective alternative to painted wood kitchens launched
Over the last few years painted wood kitchens have become increasingly popular with consumers. In response to the growing demand, more and more kitchen suppliers have started introducing painted wood kitchens into their ranges.
The large increase in the availability of painted wood kitchens has led to greater choice for consumers. It’s also meant that owning a painted wood kitchen is now more affordable than ever. However, a painted wood kitchen still carries a large premium.
Now, Egger is launching a revolutionary new range of melamine faced chipboard (MFC) into the UK. The new MFC is virtually indistinguishable from painted wood kitchens, but costs a fraction of the price.
Egger’s new ST27 decor range is available in 10 neutral colours. Egger also offer a primed option which allows consumers to paint the door to any colour of their choice. The primed only door option will be of particular interest to consumers wishing to paint their kitchen doors in a specific colour to match an existing colour scheme such as the walls or furniture.
Although painted vinyl kitchens & painted foil kitchens already offer consumers a less expensive alternative to painted wood kitchens, the savings involved aren’t always that large. However, as these new Egger doors are made from MFC, which is considerably cheaper than vinyl & foil, the savings involved are about to get much bigger.
A painted MFC door also has another big advantage over a painted vinyl or foil wrapped doors. That is, there’s no risk of it ever de-laminating. Unfortunately, the biggest drawback of all vinyl & foil wrapped kitchens is they’re susceptible to de-laminating. De-laminating is where the surface peels away from the MDF base.

The new range of doors will most likely be launched in a shaker style as this is currently the most popular style of traditional kitchen door on the market. However, dependent on its success, the new material may also be offered as an in-frame kitchen door option later on.
Although Egger hasn’t stated exactly when the new doors will become available, it’s most likely that consumers will start to see them appear in specialist kitchen showrooms over the course of the next 6-12 months.
