Why local kitchen showrooms can be cheaper than the chains
If you are looking for a new kitchen, maybe you thought about checking out the local kitchen showrooms and then dismissed the idea. After all, everyone knows they are a lot more expensive than the major high street chains. Or are they?
Kitchen showrooms can be cheaper than you think
“Facts” that everyone knows are not always true, and while many local kitchen showrooms are expensive, some offer kitchens that cost similar to the chains. Plus, the kitchen you’ll get will usually be higher-quality than the chains and will last much longer.
How are these kitchens higher-quality?
The units will be constructed from high-quality high density chipboard. High density chipboard will support the weight of the heaviest worktops and will never bow. In contrast, the chains and trade-only suppliers use low-quality, low density chipboard. The problem with having cheap, low density chipboard is it will not be long before it starts to bow.
The doors on these kitchens tend to be the high-quality lacquered or acrylic type. In contrast, the chains and trade-only suppliers mainly sell the low-quality vinyl, foil or PVC wrapped type. The problem with wrapped doors is they peel.
How is it possible?
It seems ridiculous that this is even possible. How can a tiny company not only compete on price with the chains and trade-only suppliers, but also offer a higher quality kitchen?
The answer is simple — the chains have huge overheads, and local kitchen showrooms do not. Small local kitchen showrooms do not have to maintain vast shops up and down the country, with huge numbers of staff.
Also, small kitchen showrooms do not have to pay for multi-million-pound advertisements on TV like the chains do.
Save money on the fitting too
Getting a high-quality kitchen for a similar price to a low-quality kitchen from one of the chains is a great deal in itself. However, it is possible to get a better deal on the fitting too. This is because local kitchen showrooms’ costs for fitting are generally much less than what the chains charge.
So, whilst the chains usually charge about £5,000 for fitting, local kitchen showrooms usually only charge around £2,000, which is similar to what builders usually charge.
