Should you buy a melamine kitchen?
If you’re planning on buying a new kitchen, one of the questions you might be deciding on is the finish. There are many different finishes for kitchen doors, each of which has its advantages and drawbacks. One you may have come across is melamine — so what are the pros and cons of a melamine kitchen?
What are the advantages of a melamine kitchen?
For many people, a crucial advantage of buying a melamine kitchen is that it’s one of the cheapest options. If you’re on a tight budget but want a good kitchen, melamine provides an excellent finish at a low price.
Even if the cost isn’t crucial, though, melamine is also one of the most durable of all kitchen finishes. It’s highly resistant to scratching and chipping, as well as its non-porous surface making it stain resistant. This could make all the difference if you have young children or dogs.
Another great reason for going for a melamine finish for your kitchen is the range of choices it gives you. It comes in a wide variety of colours, as well as finishes, including wood, stone, marble and metallic effects. Melamine allows you to enjoy a stylish look combined with durability and low cost.
What are the disadvantages of a melamine kitchen?
Although there are plenty of advantages to buying a melamine kitchen, there are also some drawbacks. It’s up to you whether these are enough to outweigh the benefits.
First of all, melamine isn’t going to give you the smoothest of finishes. If you’re looking for a silky smooth finish, a painted, lacquered, lacquered laminate or Fenix kitchen will provide that. By comparison, a melamine kitchen has a slightly textured/rough finish.
Another problem comes with the edging. Melamine doors are edged on all four sides. Some people are put off by this.
The other problem is fingerprints with dark colours. Although fingerprints are not an issue on lighter colour melamine doors, they can be with dark colours. Examples of dark colours that can show fingerprints are black, dark grey, dark blue and dark green.
