Four tips to getting the best deal on your kitchen installation
Wherever you buy your kitchen from, it needs to be installed. Kitchen installation can be expensive and are fraught with potential problems. So here are four tips on how to make it is as cost effective and stress-free as possible.
Use a kitchen fitter for your kitchen installation not a builder
It can be tempting to hire a builder for your kitchen installation. After all, they are usually a bit cheaper than a specialist kitchen fitter. Plus, the whole point of being a general builder is than they can turn their hands to anything, isn’t it?
Unfortunately, it is not that simple. Most builders are good at building and at best, ‘ok’ at fitting kitchens. After all, you would not ask a kitchen fitter to build a wall. So, why would you get a builder to fit a kitchen?
Use the same company to supply and fit the kitchen
Using one company to design and supply the kitchen and someone else to install it always increases the chances of things going wrong. These problems can delay completion of the kitchen and cause an endless amount of stress. Also, when things do go wrong, it makes it much harder to pin the responsibility onto either party.
Don’t get me wrong, problems can still arise when you use one company to do everything. However, in most cases, these problems are picked up and resolved without you even noticing anything went wrong. This is not usually the case when you use one company to design & supply the kitchen and someone else to fit it.
Find out how long it’s going to take
One of the key differences between a kitchen fitter and a builder is the time the process takes. People who are fitting kitchens day in, day out have the process streamlined, especially if they are installing the kitchens they supply and know inside out.
kitchen fitters usually take a week to fit a kitchen with laminate worktops or two weeks for a kitchen with granite or quartz worktops. In contrast, builders can often take five or six weeks to complete the same job, mainly because they are not so familiar with the units as a kitchen fitter will be.
Use an independent kitchen showroom for your kitchen installation
Customers often go to builders for kitchen installation. This is because the chains usually charge about £4,000 for fitting, where as builders typically charge about £2,000. However, If you buy your kitchen from an Independent kitchen showroom and use them for kitchen installation, they usually quote similar to what a builder quotes. Plus, they will usually fit the kitchen to a much higher standard than a builder will.
