Should you buy a lacquered laminate kitchen?
If you’re looking for a good-quality kitchen, you’ll have the choice of a number of door finishes. So, for example, you could go for a laminate kitchen, a lacquered kitchen or a lacquered laminate kitchen.
The purpose of this article is to explain the advantages and disadvantages of lacquered laminate kitchens.
Reasons to buy a lacquered laminate kitchen:
Cost
If you’re on a tight budget, but still want a door with a high-quality finish, a lacquered laminate kitchen is the perfect choice. Price wise, it should only cost you slightly more than a laminate kitchen, however, it has a much higher-quality finish than a laminate door.
Durability
One of the major selling points of a lacquered laminate kitchen is it’s durability. It’s much more durable than a lacquered kitchen, and this is largely because of the edges. Lacquered doors have painted edges which are delicate and can easily chip. In contrast, lacquered laminate doors have tough, durable PVC edging which are almost impossible to chip.
Reasons not to buy a lacquered laminate kitchen:
The edging
One of the things you take into account when buying a kitchen is how pleasing it looks — the aesthetics. For some people, a lacquered laminate kitchen may lose out in this respect. This is because the PVC edging that gives the doors strength, also gives them a very modern square edge. While some people like this, some people prefer the more rounded edge you get with a lacquered kitchen.
Limited colour choice
Most manufacturers offer a limited choice of colours in their lacquered laminate kitchen ranges compared to their lacquered kitchen ranges.
Also, if you want to have a bespoke colour, such as a specific Farrow and Ball or Little Green colour, this will only be available in a lacquered door.
Cost
Although they cost less than lacquered kitchens, they cost more than laminate kitchens.
