Should you buy a fluted kitchen?
If you’re looking for something a bit different and stylish, what about a fluted kitchen? Also known as a reeded, grooved or slatted kitchen, they have a textured, undulating profile that catches all eyes.
Fluted kitchens are bang on trend. However, there are plenty of cons for them too. I’ll be going through these to help you decide whether or not to buy a fluted kitchen.
Reasons to buy a fluted kitchen
One of the biggest reasons to buy one is that it’s bang on trend — and for good reasons. It looks really great, and its unusual, elegant profile makes a very clear statement.
Some uncommon types of kitchen are very niche, giving little choice, but the opposite is true of fluted kitchens. They’re available in a wide range of materials and finishes including natural wood, painted wood, painted MDF and even metallic.
Even if you decide against a real fluted kitchen (and I’ll come to reasons for that shortly) there’s an alternative. You can get laminated doors that are flat, but give a fluted effect — and these too come in many colours.
The latest trends in kitchens are often out of reach of all but the best-off, but not fluted kitchens. They cater for all budgets. While real wood and painted MDF fluted kitchens are expensive, reeded effect laminate kitchens costs much less and can still look great.
Reasons not to buy one
Although a fluted kitchen looks stunning, it can be a nightmare to keep clean. This is because grease and dirt tends to get trapped in the grooves. You can be reduced to cleaning them out with a toothbrush.
A possible compromise is to go for the fluted effect kitchen, instead. Although this has all the visual statement of a fluted kitchen, the surfaces are flat so are easy to clean.
Another big drawback is the same as one of the biggest advantages — that they are currently trending. Unfortunately, this means they might as quickly go out of fashion, leaving you with an expensive but dated-looking kitchen.
