How do Burbidge Kitchens compare with other brands?
Burbidge Kitchens are sold mostly via independent kitchen showrooms. In order to gauge how good value they are, it’s necessary to compare them with alternatives. These include other brands sold by independents and also places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes.
How do Burbidge Kitchens compare with places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes?
Many people start their search for a new kitchen at places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet or Wickes.
None of these places are as good quality as a Burbidge kitchen. Most Burbidge’s doors are the high-quality painted/lacquered type. In contrast, places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes mostly supply low-quality wrapped-type doors. The problem with wrapped doors is they peel.
Given the quality difference, you’ll probably expect a Burbidge kitchen to cost a lot more than a kitchen from somewhere like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes. However, this isn’t always the case. Sometimes Burbidge Kitchens work out similar in price to these places.
How do Burbidge Kitchens compare with other brands sold by independents?
There are lots of independent kitchen showrooms across the country, selling a great number of brands besides Burbidge Kitchens. When it comes to comparing them in price and quality, the results differ substantially.
Quality wise, some of these brands are higher-quality than Burbidge, some similar and some lower-quality. The same applies to price, which ranges from more expensive than Burbidge to cheaper.
The downside of buying a Burbidge Kitchen
Burbidge are one of many ‘doors only’ kitchen brands. Therefore, when you buy a Burbidge kitchen, only the doors would have come from Burbidge. The rest of the kitchen, i.e. the carcasses, drawers, hinges, mechanisms and storage solutions would have come from elsewhere.
There are two problems with this. Firstly, if you buy a Burbidge Kitchen, how do you know if the carcasses, drawers, hinges, mechanisms and storage solutions supplied are also good-quality? Many people incorrectly assume that the quality of a kitchen is determined just by the quality of the doors. This is not the case. The quality of a kitchen is determined by the quality of all the components that make up that kitchen, not just the doors. This problem is compounded by the fact that most retailers will tell you that you’re buying a Burbidge Kitchen. Therefore, you’ll assume that all of the kitchen comes from Burbidge, not just the doors.
The other problem is that if, a few years down the line, you get a problem with the carcasses, drawers, hinges, mechanisms or storage solutions, if the retailer you purchased the kitchen from are no longer in business, who do you go back to? You cant go back to Burbidge as they only supplied the doors.
If you’re worried about buying a kitchen from a ‘doors only’ brand like Burbidge, you may be better off buying a kitchen from a ‘complete’ kitchen brand instead. ‘Complete’ brands manufacture all of the components of the kitchen, not just the doors. There are lots of ‘complete’ brands.
