Where to find the best value true handleless kitchens
If you’re looking for a new kitchen, you might be attracted to the clean look of a true handleless kitchen. This style of kitchen is available from lots of different places.
So, for instance, you can go to one of the large high-street chains, such as Wren, Magnet or Wickes. You could also go through a builder and try one of the large trade-only suppliers, such as Howdens or Benchmarx. Alternatively, there are many smaller, independent kitchen showrooms that also sell them.
So, which of these places offer the best value?
True handleless kitchens from the high-street chains and trade-only suppliers
The advantage large suppliers offer is cost. Places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes are cheap. However, their kitchens aren’t only cheap in price — they’re also cheap in quality, which means they won’t last very long. So, for example, they construct their carcasses from low-quality, low-density chipboard. The problem with low-density chipboard is it won’t be long before it starts to bow under the weight of the worktops. Similarly, most of their kitchens come with low-quality wrapped doors. The problem with wrapped doors is they peel.
Another downside with these places is that their design service is usually poor. It’s rare their designs make good use of the available space. Also, their designs often contain design errors. The problem with design errors is that you’re unlikely to discover them until you start using your kitchen. By which time, it’s too late to do anything about them. An example of a design error is positioning a fridge or fridge-freezer too close to a wall. The problem with doing this is that it prevents you from being able to open the salad cart.
The other problem with the chains is they charge a fortune to fit the kitchen — typically twice as much as a builder.
True handleless kitchens from independent kitchen showrooms
Independent kitchen showrooms also offer a wide choice true handleless kitchens. These differ substantially in both price and quality. Therefore, some brands cost more than the chains and trade-only suppliers, some similar and some less. Likewise, some brands are higher-quality than the chains and trade-only suppliers, some similar and some lower-quality.
The key thing is, if you know the right independents to visit, you can get a kitchen that costs similar to places like Howdens, Wren, Magnet and Wickes, but is higher-quality. Plus, the the right independents will design your kitchen properly, ensuring the plan makes best use of the available space and is free from design errors.
The problem is, finding the right independents is easier said than done. This is because they are few and far between.
