How to find the best kitchens
If you’re looking for a new kitchen, you’ll want to know where to find the best kitchens. That’s not easy to answer, though, since it depends what you mean by best.
The best kitchens for price
The best kitchens for price are normally from the big chains. High street chains like Wickes and Wren, or trade suppliers like Howdens and Benchmarx, beat most competitors on price.
On the other hand, they tend to be cheap in quality, too. You’ll find the backs of your cabinets starting to bow after a while, since they’re often as thin as 3mm. Similarly, the doors will start peeling, as they tend to be the low-quality foil, vinyl, PET or PVC wrapped type. These offer a short-term saving, but otherwise they aren’t the best kitchens.
The best kitchens for a cheap rental property
If you don’t care at all about quality, there are sources even cheaper than from the chains. Outlets like IKEA & B&Q sell kitchens that are cheaper and lower quality. For a kitchen to last a couple of years in a rental property, these could be the best kitchens. You probably wouldn’t want them in your home, though.
The best for quality
If your only concern is quality, on the other hand, you’ll find the best kitchens at independent showrooms. You’ll also find them at high-class chains like John Lewis. If you’re looking for a kitchen that’s built to last at least 10-12 years, this is where you should be looking.
These kitchens will have solid 18mm backs that will never bow and high quality painted or lacquered doors that will never peel. However, Most of the independents, charge high prices for these, However, there a few independents around that will charge similar to the chains & trade suppliers.
The best for choice
The independent showrooms also offer the best kitchens for choice. At a chain or trade supplier, you’ll only have a few door colours and styles to choose from. Their Shaker kitchens, for instance, offer one or two styles of Shaker doors and a very limited choice of colours.
By contrast, most independents offer up to ten styles of Shaker doors in a wide range of colours. Many independent showrooms also offer the option to have your kitchen painted in any colour of you choice, often for no additional cost.
The best balance of price vs quality
The best kitchens for value are the ones that cost similar to the chains & trade only suppliers, but are much higher quality & will last longer. You’ll only find these in some independent kitchen showrooms. The big question is, how do you find them? Well, that’s where I come in. Spending many years with the company that supplied most of the UK’s independent showrooms around the UK has left me with a unique insight. Therefore, I know which local showrooms offer these ranges.
