Three ways to get the best deal on a new kitchen
Buying a new kitchen isn’t something you do on a regular basis. It involves a lot of expense and disruption, and you’ll want to keep both to a minimum. You’ll also want to make sure that it’s a long time before you have to go through it all again.
So, here are a few things to remember.
Buy from a local kitchen showroom rather than the high street chains
It might seem the easiest option to turn to one of the High Street chains or a trade only supplier. However, just because they’re well-known brands, though, doesn’t mean they’ll offer the best deal. Believe it or not, a good value local showroom can actually charge a similar amount for a new kitchen & offer you a higher-quality kitchen that will last much longer. Just as Sharon Edwards, one of our customers recently discovered:
“The company were excellent from start to finish & much more competitively priced than the high street chains!” Sharon Edwards, Orpington, Kent
The chains, for instance, will usually only supply low-quality PET, PVC, foil or vinyl wrapped type doors which all have a tendency to peel, whereas a local showroom can offer high-quality painted & lacquered or acrylic gloss doors, which will never peel. Similarly, the backs of units from the chains will be 3mm or 6mm hardboard, rather than solid 18mm backs that provide proper support for the unit.
Buy everything for your new kitchen from the same supplier
It can be tempting to shop around for the worktops and appliances, However, if something goes wrong, and often they do, if you’ve used multiple suppliers, you’ll be left in the middle trying to sort it all out, perhaps leaving you for months before your kitchen can be finished. A single supplier, on the other hand, would have had it all fixed before you even know there’s a problem.
It’s likely, in any case, that a good local showroom will offer the best deal on the worktops & appliances. Their markups are typically much lower than the big chains, therefore their prices are similar to what you find on the internet, but without the risks involved in using multiple suppliers. Not to mention you can take advantage of the expert advice available.
Get your new kitchen fitted by the showroom and not a general builder
Your local builder can be cheaper than the major chains but, although they may be excellent in their own field, it’s probable that they’ve only fitted one or two types of cheap trade kitchens and are unfamiliar with the many brands available.
A good showroom will do the fitting of your new kitchen for a price similar to a builder (typically around £1,300) but you’ll be having the work done by experts who know their own kitchen brands inside out. They’ll usually finish in a fraction of the time a builder would normally take, creating far less mayhem. Also, if anything does goes wrong, they’ll fix it without fuss, instead of recriminations flying between supplier and fitter on who’s in the wrong & who’s to blame.
Of course, not all local showrooms are equal. My long experience in the industry enables me to find the best showrooms in your area, so you can find the best possible deal on your new kitchen.
